Grandpa Brinton by Amy Brinton Blad
"Grandpa Brinton has always impressed me as a man who knows something about everything. He has accumulated a wealth of knowledge about many subjects, especially in church history and church doctrine. I remember many times as a child being led into Grandpa's office where he taught me about a subject he was excited about that day.
I remember playing ping pong with my siblings in my grandparent's basement. Sometimes Grandpa would come downstairs and play with us. We were used to making up our own rules as we pleased. However, my Grandpa always insisted that we play by the official ping pong rules and he was quite a challenge to beat.
I remember that my Grandpa always spoke kindly of my Grandma and never put her down. He supported her decisions and I never saw them argue. I have always been impressed by the unity they had in their marriage. I will never forget the sweet plea from my Grandpa at my grandmother's funeral. The casket was about to closed and a man was about to remove the rose that had been placed in my Grandma's hands. Grandpa, who had remained composed during the viewing, choked on his words and asked if she could keep the rose in her hands. I felt, for one moment, the incredible love, respect and admiration that my Grandpa has for his eternal companion.
My Grandpa has a firm testimony of the gospel of Jesus Christ He has always been a wonderful example to me of someone who puts the gospel first in his life."
